Books2Go and Little Free Libraries
Have you seen these little libraries and wondered ‘What’s the deal?’
Here’s the inside scoop: Some of them are Scottsdale Library’s Books2Go miniature libraries. Together with our city’s Parks, Rec and Facilities teams, here’s how it works:
The big idea is to install mini-libraries near park playgrounds and shopping centers, for easy access to books for all. It’s an easy and fun way to browse for books, at a kid’s eye and accessible view. What a great way to make a book jump out at a reader!
For taller people, it’s worth the bend over to stretch your curiosity. You too might thrill at finding a new read or recommending an old favorite to someone new.
There are also Little Free Libraries, ‘the world’s largest book-sharing movement . . . building community, inspiring readers and expanding book access for all.’ Too cool for school, huh?
When I’m walking in the park, I can’t resist stopping to browse the titles and maybe borrow one. I also hit the brakes for Snoopy and Woodstock’s Little Free Library!
And, when it’s time to liberate books from my home library, I know where to bring them and share the love of reading. I’m fixing to unload a Martha Stewart cookbook for someone who actually cooks.
If I have a few extra minutes, I straighten up the books. Shh, don’t tell a real librarian I didn’t put them in any order but upright!
Hmm, maybe I can get a mini-horse to ride to the mini-library and play mini-libriarian. We could have a posse! Let’s volunteer and do our part!
If you came in through the back door, here’s a whole lot more about Scottsdale’s Libraries — enjoy!
